Calitzdorp is set in lush vineyards and fruit orchards on the Gamka river at the foot of the majestic Swartberg mountains. Famous for its gold medal Port wine, Calitzdorp is a charming historic farming town in the very heart of the Little Karoo.

Come and experience Calitzdorp’s little corner of Eden for yourself.
Andries Pretorius str +wmIMG_1942Why would you choose to come to Calitzdorp? What could possibly be of interest?

To start with – your comfort. We have great accommodation available – from back-packers, bikers and campers across the range of self-catering and B & B establishments to the most luxurious.

Restaurants and coffee shops will provide meals and treats.

Year after year, Calitzdorp’s exceptional, world class port wines are awarded gold medals –  You can’t come here without trying them all!

The perennial Gamka river flows through vineyards, fruit orchards and lucerne fields; a mass of blossom in spring and bright green with grapes ripening in high summer.
Merinda Combrink's gallery2For the plant lover – we are set in the middle of not one – but four overlapping, unique floral biomes. In July 2015 three of our nature reserves were awarded World Heritage Site status.

Drive through towering Cape fold-rock Swartberg and Rooiberg mountains and their spectacular passes and poorts and believe it or not – there are wild leopard in those mountains!!

Architecture – from beautiful stately homes to the tiniest ‘nagmaal’ cottages, all cheek by jowel in historic streets.

What’s on? Festivals, sporting activities, events.

How was it done pre-plastic? A wooden washing machine? Wooden waterpipes? See them in our museum.

The history of the town is briefly known, so more detail has been provided. Read what may interest you – skip the rest.

…and the bad stuff?

Well we can’t deny it – we have pot-holes, breaking water pipes, littering, loitering, begging, petty theft, alcohol and drug abuse and an occasional break-in –

and .. umm, .. bad language!

But as local language is usually incomprehensible to outsiders anyway,  many don’t recognise just how foul the language really is…..!

The intention of Calitzdorp-Everything! is to be informative and to ‘tell it as it is’.
